IDENTITY

I have decided to focus on identity for my portfolio as my main theme. I would first like to focus on street photography, to capture the unknown identity and how appearances can warp the perspective someone has of another person. I will then follow the basic outline of someone’s identity, their body, hobbies and lifestyle. Next I will move onto more of someone’s hidden identity, such things as insecurities, memories and sexuality. Finally, I shall look into the deep identity of mental health, how that effects them physically and mentally. For each section of this journey I would like to explore many aspects of photography, including studio work, dark room, mixed media etc. I would like to develop not only the style of capturing a photo but also the way a photo is presented, both physically and digitally. I will take inspiration from such artists as Christian Sampson (mental health) and Barbara Kruger (Collages revolving around identity.) my end goal is to create a smooth journey from surface to rock bottom of identity, using as many techniques as suited to this theme and conveying clear messages in all images I produce.
